FAQ
Questions about Law Assess
Law Assess is a competency assessment platform that helps law firms hire the right paralegals, legal secretaries, receptionists, and intake specialists. Here are the answers we get asked most.
What is Law Assess?
- Law Assess is a competency assessment platform for law firms. It helps firms objectively evaluate paralegals, legal secretaries, receptionists, and intake specialists before hiring them, using role-specific tests with weighted scoring and hiring recommendations.
How do legal competency assessments work?
- A firm picks a role template (or builds a custom one), sends a secure invite link or code to a candidate, and the candidate completes a 30–45 minute assessment in any modern browser. Each answer is scored against weighted competency categories, and the firm receives a printable report with strengths, weaknesses, and a hiring recommendation.
Which legal roles can I assess?
- Law Assess includes templates for paralegals, legal secretaries, front-desk receptionists, and client intake specialists. You can also clone any template to build custom assessments for niche roles inside your firm.
How long does an assessment take?
- Most candidates complete an assessment in 30–45 minutes. Sessions autosave on every answer, so candidates can resume if they lose connection or close the tab.
How is the score calculated?
- Each question belongs to a competency category (for example: legal terminology, document handling, client communication, software fluency). Categories have weights you control. Final scores combine weighted category performance into a single 0–100 score and a hiring recommendation band (Hire, Hold, Do Not Hire).
Can I customize questions and weights?
- Yes. Admins can clone any template, edit questions, add new categories, and adjust category weights and thresholds to match how their firm hires.
Is candidate data secure?
- Yes. Each law firm is its own isolated tenant. Row-level security enforces strict separation between organizations, and candidate uploads (like resumes) are only visible to staff inside the firm that invited them.
How much does Law Assess cost?
- Plans are seat-based and start at $239/month (Starter, billed annually) for small firms, $479/month (Professional) for mid-sized firms, and $1,199/month (Enterprise) for larger or multi-office firms. See the pricing page for full details.
Do candidates need to install anything?
- No. Candidates take the assessment in any modern browser using a secure code or invite link — no account creation, no downloads.
Can I compare candidates side by side?
- Yes. The candidate dashboard supports side-by-side comparisons across competency categories so partners can quickly see how applicants stack up for the same role.
